Dear Friends and Community Colleagues,

December 6th marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women; a solemn occasion to honor the lives lost to gender-based violence (GBV) and a poignant reminder that there is still much work to be done to end GBV. This work can’t be done without the support of our communities.

The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women holds particular significance as we remember the 14 young women whose lives were tragically taken in the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre in Montréal, as well as the lives of women (who were mothers, sisters, aunties, friends, and daughters) who have lost their lives in femicide killings since.

Please take a few minutes to read this call-to action letter and consider what you can do to support the calls to action in your day-to-day lives, this, and every month. All of us—individuals, businesses and municipalities—need to work together to prevent violence and support survivors.

We would appreciate your attendance at our candlelight vigil on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 5–5:30 p.m. at 20 Bredin Parkway in Orangeville. This will be an outdoor event, so please dress accordingly and feel free to let us know that you’ll be attending.

Woman abuse is not a woman’s issue. It’s a human rights issue affecting all of us.

Sincerely,

Lynette
