Today is the first day of Woman Abuse Prevention Month (WAPM). Every year, throughout November, WAPM is recognized in communities and organizations across Ontario. WAPM exists to drive awareness, education, and a willingness to help end violence against women in our province and, ultimately, around the globe.
FTP is again participating in the Wrapped in Courage campaign—an annual initiative developed by the Ontario Association of Interval & Transition Houses. This year is the 10th anniversary of this awareness campaign, emphasizing the ever-existing importance of ending gender-based violence.
As part of this year’s campaign, FTP will sell a brand new Wrapped in Courage purple scarf (see image). Each scarf is unique and handmade with hand-felted Merino wool and integrated recycled saris. $40/each—quantities are limited. You can purchase a scarf by visiting our online shop—or contacting Kelly at 519-942-4122, ext. 243 or kelly@familytransitionplace.ca.
Throughout November, we will share information and resources through “Did You Know?” posts on our website and social media pages. We hope you’ll take the time to read and share these messages with your network to help build awareness of the prevalence of violence against women and what we must do to end it—together. Other community activities, such as flag-raising ceremonies and proclamations, are also in the works.
