This workshop will cover a wide range of topics ensuring participants acquire the practical skills, processes and tools needed to recognize, understand, support and help refer someone who is being abused.
Participants will:
- Have a better understanding of what domestic abuse is and be able to recognize the warning signs
- Develop a better appreciation of an abused person’s experience
- Understand the underlying factors that can contribute to why people exert power and control in relationships
This workshop is an opportunity for those experienced in addressing domestic abuse to acquire and develop advanced skills when working with the victim and/or abuser.
In addition to the above learning outcomes, participants will:
- Acquire skills for efficient note-taking, effective communication and language as it relates to domestic abuse
- Develop an awareness of what a “witness” needs to feel supported
- Learn new strategies on how to maintain a professional working relationship with the victim and/or abuser
- Recognize the need for safety planning for the victim and workplace
Participants will explore issues regarding healthy vs. unhealthy workplace relationships. Participants will gain a real world understanding of topics including what healthy and unhealthy workplace relationships look like, how a manager can contribute to those relationships as well as how to create a positive workplace culture.
Participants will:
- Learn how to identify whether a relationship is healthy or unhealthy
- Explore the power of put downs and compliments
- Understand the impact of teamwork
- Identify different communication styles and how to operate effectively with each of them
- Examine the impact of empathy on a workplace
