November is Woman Abuse Prevention Month

Woman abuse is not a women’s issue. It is a human rights issue, and it affects us all. Together, we can work to eliminate woman abuse. Indeed we must. Every woman and child has the fundamental right to live in safety and security.

Every year, throughout the month of November, Woman Abuse Prevention Month (WAPM) is recognized in communities and organizations across Ontario. WAPM exists to drive awareness, education and a willingness to help end violence against women in our province, and ultimately, around the globe.

November 25th is recognized as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence ending on Human Rights Day (December 10th).

Wrapped in Courage Campaign

Family Transition Place (FTP) is proud to be participating again in the Wrapped in Courage Campaign, an initiative developed by the Ontario Association of Interval and Transition Houses (OAITH). You can support this initiative and FTP in working to end violence against women in Dufferin and Caledon by wrapping yourself in a purple scarf. Your pet can also join this initiative—large and small pet bandanas are available for purchase.

The Wrapped in Courage purple scarf is more than just a scarf. It is a symbol of your commitment to gender equity, throughout and beyond Woman Abuse Prevention Month this November. By purchasing one of these handmade scarves you are making a difference for the artisans who made them and to organizations across Ontario supporting survivors of gender-based violence in your community.  All proceeds from the sale of scarves will support our vital programs and services.

Each scarf purchased from Hamro Village is a handmade, unique, artisan product—no two scarves will be the same! The predominant colour of scarves will be purple. Sari material will contain colours and patterns unique to each scarf.

Two Wrapped in Courage scarf designs are available this year, both made of 100% Merino wool infelted with recycled sari material:

DIMENSION: 77″ x 12″ (195 cm x 30.48 cm)
MATERIAL: 100% Merino wool infelted with recycled sari
CARE: Hand wash in warm water with mild detergent. Wring gently and hang to air-dry.
