Throughout the pandemic, our service delivery has adapted to continue providing safety, support and hope to the Dufferin and Caledon communities. We are still here for those who need our support.

For women in abusive relationships, any period of isolation can amplify an already volatile situation. While the province is shutdown, victims of domestic violence may experience the following: increased relationship stress, a lack of safety, intimidation, controlling behaviours, physical threats and/or physical harm. During trying times like these, it is our obligation as a community to check in on friends and family to make sure everyone is safe and free from harm. Family Transition Place (FTP) is here to provide support when needed.

FTP provides safe shelter and counselling for women and their children, who are experiencing domestic or gender-based violence. Since the onset of the pandemic, FTP has been working diligently—carefully following the recommendations from public health officials and the Ministry of Children and Community Social Services (MCCSS)—to ensure that we continue to provide compassionate care and support to those who need it in the Dufferin and Caledon communities. Our emergency shelter has been modified to accommodate physical distancing protocols; the women and children staying with us have their own safe and independent living spaces, including a private bedroom and bathroom. Our staff are strictly following all enhanced cleaning and safety recommendations to significantly reduce the risk of an outbreak. Our counselling and outreach supports will be offered virtually or by phone. Our support/info line will continue to operate 24/7, and text options are also still available. Through it all, our priority has been to ensure that those who are experiencing domestic violence and/or homelessness have somewhere safe to go, or have the option to speak with a sympathetic professional.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need assistance. Pandemic-related restrictions will not affect our ability to provide access to safety, support and hope for those in need.
