Last Friday, in recognition of National Volunteer Week (April 7th-13th), FTP staff celebrated the incredible efforts and support of our amazing volunteers, as well as the contributions made by our monthly and significant donors. Guests were invited to Lavender Blue Catering, where our milestone volunteers were also celebrated for their many years of supporting the work that we do here. This year, we celebrate:

Nicole Hambleton

Nicole Hambleton

5-Year Milestone Award

Nicole Hambleton joined our board of directors five years ago, drawn by the mission and work of FTP because of her commitment to women and wellness. Nicole has been a brilliant addition to the board, bringing her unique sense of humour along with her compassion for the women and children we serve. With her background as a dietician and a strong interest in nutrition, her experience and advice has been invaluable, especially as we started up the Food and Nutrition Program in the shelter.

Nicole is now the president of the board and fulfills her role with authenticity and grace — ensuring that FTP leadership and staff always keep a commitment to wellness and lessening the agency’s environmental impact. Thank you, Nicole!

Nancy Mongeon

Nancy Mongeon

5-Year Milestone Award

Nancy Mongeon joined our board five years ago and brought a wealth of experience from other boards and from healthcare with her. Nancy sat as the chair of our Governance Committee for two years, ensuring that we didn’t fall behind on our review and updating of all our policies and procedures. Nancy’s diligence and attention to detail help keep us on track and her willingness to laugh with us all helps remind us to always find the fun in the work we are doing! Not content to “do good” only here at home, she is often to be found gallivanting off across the globe on volunteer escapades, bringing her unique sense of warmth and caring to many others.

We are so glad you decided to come to FTP so that we could experience it for ourselves, Nancy. Thank you!

Stacey Coupland

Stacey Coupland

10-Year Milestone Award

Stacey Coupland is receiving recognition for an amazing 10-year anniversary as a volunteer with FTP. Stacey first joined the agency on the board of directors, spending six years, first as a member at large, then vice president, and then finally in the role of president. As president, Stacey guided the board with a firm vision and understanding of FTP’s work and challenges. Her concern was always for the women and children (and men) we serve but also for the staff of the agency. As board chair, Stacey was a mentor and support to the executive director, acting as a sounding board on many issues. Since retiring from the board, Stacey has remained active as a community member on our Board Finance Committee, lending her business skills to understanding and helping make sense of the finances to the rest of the committee. She also continues to volunteer on the fundraising event committees.

Thank you Stacey. Your commitment to FTP and its work is so admirable!

Jeanette McCurdy

Jeanette McCurdy

5-Year Milestone Award

Thank you to Jeanette McCurdy, who has spent many hours behind the scenes volunteering her expertise as a copy editor for our HOPE and Celebrating Women magazines — each magazine published in conjunction with our flagship fundraisers.

Jeanette’s experience and mastery has been valuable to us and has helped enhance the overall tone of these magazines. She is always enthusiastic to provide support, and even when her life has been hectic, she has made it a priority to lend a helping hand.

Thank you Jeanette, for all of your work. We appreciate you and are so grateful for your contributions and feedback. Your input elevates the overall quality and professionalism of our publications, and ultimately, Family Transition Place. You are an amazing virtual volunteer and we hope we can count on you for many years to come. Thank you so much.

Leisa Way

Leisa Way

5-Year Milestone Award

Leisa Way is a well-known, and busy lady in our community — often to be seen on stage at Theatre Orangeville in her various stage personae’s. Despite her hectic performance schedule that takes her out of town so much, Leisa’s big heart makes her make time for others! Five years ago, Leisa — who is also a certified yoga teacher and aware of how stressful the work can be at FTP — volunteered to come and give yoga classes for our staff. She lugs her bags full of bolsters and blocks into our meeting room at FTP on Wednesdays at lunch and helps remind us of the importance of taking time for ourselves. Over the years she has developed a devoted band of yogis who especially look forward to her restorative classes — and we do feel restored! Not to be satisfied with that — Leisa puts out a donation jar and anything we chip in gets collected for a school for kids with disabilities she knows in the Caribbean. Leisa also steps up in many other capacities, speaking out for our cause, lending her beautiful voice to our vigils (even pinch hitting at the last moment when the previously booked singer cancelled! “I can be there in 20 minutes!” she said, and she was!), and putting her acting skills into play when we try to present the issue of woman abuse in a theatrical setting.

Leisa, you have a heart as big as all outdoors. Thank you for sharing a piece of that heart with us at FTP.

Gillian Vanderburgh

Gillian Vanderburgh

15-Year Milestone Award

We are so grateful to have had the support of Gillian Vanderburgh for fifteen years!  Gillian has fulfilled so many volunteer roles over the years and always brings her enthusiasm, passion, joyfulness and smile to each and every role.

Gillian is also such a great community ambassador referring donors and clients; always keeping an eye out for partnerships or synergies that could support the agency in any capacity. Thank you for your commitment and loyalty Gillian. Your support through volunteerism and your financial support over the years has made us so proud. We think of you as extended family at FTP. You are an incredible woman and we are so appreciative for everything you’ve done for us.
